April 2008

Hi everyone

As editor of the newsletter I would just like to ensure that you know who this newsletter is for. The information is aimed at keeping all Juniors of the Young Ones Leagues both divisions A and B, Pee Wee league and all the parents or adults associated with the YBC up to date with the events involving Tolworth YBC Juniors.  Please read on and find out what is occurring!

Our YBC Chairperson – Pat Harries

Firstly you may have noticed the absence of our Chairperson – Pat Harries she circulated a letter a few weeks ago that contained the quote below.

“I am not going to be around on a weekly basis for the rest of this bowling year as I am retiring and with my husband moving our base home to Menorca as from 31st March.

However, I will be in the UK frequently and will be back in May in good time for the Junior Nationals and am looking forward to a successful weekend at Chelmsford Bowl.”

While Pat Harries isn’t around we will take the opportunity to make a collection for her over the next three weeks in May and arrange for you all to sign a card.  So at the end of season we can make a presentation to mark her time and dedication to the YBC and wish her well on her retirement and new life in Menorca.

Nationals

As we approach the end of April, we prepare for the main tournament of the year.  During the weeks in May leading up to the Nationals we will have certain teams practising in the coaching sessions on a Saturday morning.  The benefits of attending is good practise, team building and ensuring you ask questions and get to know the Instructor coaching you at the Nationals.  These sessions enable the Instructor to see how you bowl and know where you may need help or encouragement at the actual tournament, so please ensure you attend these sessions.

Thank you to everyone for paying up the necessary tournament fees and hotel accommodation cost so promptly.  This really does help to have the monies already in place, to pay the hotel invoice.

Here is the timetable:  Practise with a little competitiveness is cool!

3rd May    All Nationals teams will practise either after Young ones League or Pee Wee League

10th May   Nationals Meeting after your League.

17th May   All Nationals teams will practise after the Young Ones League or Pee Wee League

24th May   Normal league bowling for everyone ~ Mufti Day

Please note practise for the Pee Wee/Bantam team bowlers will follow the Pee Wee League bowling around 12.45 approx on Saturday 3rd, 10th and 17th May this includes Joanna Hackett and Rebecca Spiking from the Young Ones League.  It will be a one game practise organised to be a little competitive!

Meeting on Saturday 10th May at 10.30 am in the bar area

There will be a general meeting for all parents and juniors taking part in this tournament, which must be attended, as rules and regulations will be given out and gone through, these will require a signature.

Notification of partners and teams will be given in a letter form to each individual on the 3rd May.  This will also tell you which Instructor has been assigned to your team.

Final reminder, don’t forget to visit the Bowlrite pro-shop downstairs at Charrington Bowl to get accessories such as tape, insert tape, cleaners and towels etc.  Ensure you check your bowling ball fits correctly in case you have grown and it needs adjustment.  But please don’t leave it to the Saturday before!

SUPPORT REQUIRED!

It is always good advertising for a Company or an organisation if their name is linked to a Tournament.  We are actively looking for a sponsor for our Tolworth Doubles tournament in early July.  All monies donated will be acknowledged by way of advertisement on our own website and the entry form to the tournament, which is circulated around the country.

We would endeavour to add this money to boost the prize fund, so the winners are given a more substantial reward for where they finish.  This would also see us perhaps reward more than the first three places.

If you have any connections or you are willing to make this donation please speak to Sheila Ashton the Tournament Manager as soon as possible so we can respond promptly.

From now to the end of the season we hope to run a few events to bring the YBC in some more funds.

Sat 24th May ~ Mufti Day   5th/6th July  ~  Tolworth Doubles

 Sun 13th July  ~  Inter-league

We hope to get the backing of Charrington Bowl to run a type of raffle and cake stalls at both events in July.  You can help by way of making cakes, standing on the stall, donating a raffle prize or coming along and buying something.

We were very fortunate in making £288.95 from the cake stall and raffle run over the weekend of the Tolworth 2’s and 4’s.  Our grateful thanks to Sue Peek for manning the cake stall all weekend and to Cara Hallsworth for selling loads of raffle tickets, their help and support was much appreciated.

As an YBC we are very proud of our bowler’s achievements and like to share these with you.

During the Tolworth 2’s and 4’s tournament we had a bowler bowl his first perfect game this was achieved by Cooder Ray, to bowl this in a tournament is special and at the presentation on the Sunday evening he was awarded with a special 300 trophy.

In the same week there was another Junior bowling in the Thursday evening Haliburton league who bowled his first 300 having come very close twice at the South of England he finally had all 12 strikes in a row, this is Simon Ashton.  What he didn’t know was it was being recorded as both his  Mum and brother were not bowling on this occasion and were at home.  The recording was then posted on the web!  None of the family missed out after all!

Lastly but this is not any less important both Josh Buller and Naomi Shand have been selected to represent the England juniors over in Vienna.  They were selected from the England Academy this is the training scheme the National Association of Youth Bowling Clubs (NAYBC) run.  They will be bowling over the weekend 5th and 6th July, so we will think of you and wish you well while we run our Tolworth Doubles tournament.
