We are now two thirds of the way through this season and this is the second newsletter of the year.We will try to bring you up to date with tournament results, but the editor has had no assistance with reports from tournaments; if anyone is prepared to email tournament reports to the editor that would be great to hear from someone else!
Two major things are happening within the YBC in the near future the first being the Easter Bowlathon, remember to exchange your £5 for your sponsor form with Angela or Tracy today. This is our main fundraiser over two seasons and it also gives all the YBC Members an opportunity to take part, support a local children’s charity and the YBC while having fun. This year’s charity is Shooting Stars Children Hospice, one of our Pee Wee parents ~ Dalton Leong is a Director of this charity and the Committee also thought that children raising money for a childrens’s charity made it more worthwhile.Alongside this we are running an Easter raffle, PROCEEDS will be added into the Bowlathon money, any donated prizes will be gratefully received. If you wish to know more about this charity please visit their web site www.shootingstar.org.uk.

News from the YBC Committee ~ Over a period of time we have been monitoring the support for our social events and have found a decline in these, so we have decided we will not be holding our end of season disco, but the YBC leagues will hold a presentation event for you to receive your trophies for the current season. You must all appreciate that a lot of hard work is put into running any type of social event and when people say they are coming and then don’t, it isn’t very rewarding but rather demoralizing. So we are looking for new ideas, Bowlers if you have any please take them to Jamie Rosenberg your Junior Captain, parents please approach a Committee Member.
County Round-up
Back in January Surrey ran their County Trials at Purley bowl and a number of our Juniors took part.Several of our bowlers have made the County squads, well done for taking part and supporting your County. Here are our bowlers who made the top ten in each age group still unofficial!A special mention to Rebecca Spiking whose only 11 years old and Hadley Morgan who qualified at the first attempt.

More recently the Surrey U18 inter-county rounds were held at Newbury where two of our bowlers achieved personal bests Josh Buller bowled 12 strikes in a row for a perfect game of 300 and sister Jenna bowled her highest game of a 267, this is a marvelous achievement as it wasn’t in our own bowling centre. Both the Surrey U18 girls and boys team qualified for the finals to be held later this season in Nottingham.
South of England at Dunstable
In January forty bowlers traveled for a very, very early start of 7.30am at Dunstable Bowl to take part in the South of England Open. This tournament was over 9 games, three in each event, Singles, Doubles and 5 man team, we came away with a number of trophies, which was excellent news.

In this tournament a Bowler may only feature ONCE in EITHER Scratch or Handicap Divisions. Scratch takes preference. i.e. Scratch 3rd precedes 1st Handicap; you could not win in both the handicap and scratch sections, so it is fantastic for our All Events winners to all be based on Scratch scores.
Purley Singles ~was different this year in that the JTE Divisions were bowled in Washington and the BTBA Tour divisions were bowled at Purley so entries were down. Iit was touch and go as to whether the tournament went ahead.
Division 5 Boys average 135 to 169 we had a number of boys taking part unfortunately nobody made the top 10.
Division 6 Girls average 120 to 144 we had two bowlers qualify for the Round Robin Rebecca Desmond in 1st Place and Chloe Ashborn in 4th place. After the Round Robin Chloe Ashborn finished in 1st Place and Rebecca Desmond in 2nd place, Well done girls!
Division 7 Boys average 134 and below in 3rd Place was Ashley Conrad with an 855 series and a high game of 171, he qualified for the Round Robin and finished in 1st Place, Well Done Ashley.
Division 8 Girls average 119 and below at the end of the 6 games qualifying Chiara Davies finished in 1st Place to go into the Round robin where she finished in 2nd Place her ninth game was a 163, some very good bowling and a very improved average too.
Raynes Park Diamond Fours ~ Raynes Park hosted the next Tournament in the BTBA Tour and introduced our bowlers to a new format called the Diamond Fours. This involved 1 bowler bowling 1 game of Singles, followed by 2 bowlers bowling 1game of Doubles, next came the Trios where 3 bowlers bowled 1 game and then the four man team bowled 3 games, then it went backwards trios, doubles and singles again, pretty confusing
hey?Every bowler in the team bowls 6 games.
Tolworth 2George Ackerman, Rebecca Spiking, Joanna Hackett and Jamie Rosenberg finished in 7th place with a team total of 3638.Personally George finished in 9th place with a 176 average, Rebecca in 26th with a 128 average, Joanna in 17th Place with a 140 average and Jamie in 19th place with 161 average.

Tolworth 5were 13th just 57 pins behind Tolworth 3. This team consisted of Sam Mitchell, Adrian James, Jodie Ashborn and Naomi Shand.Naomi finished in 8th place with a 169 average and Jodie in14th Place with a 151 average, Sam finished in 34th place with a 136 average and Adrian had a 94 average.
For a first time experience we are sure it was good fun.
